Resumen
Jaime Alfredo Contreras Coral's work explores the concept of the map beyond its function as a navigation tool, viewing it instead as a representation of human experience, emotions, and being lost. The author argues that maps are essential guides that document both geographical spaces and personal experiences and feelings, crucial for understanding our position in the world. Throughout the text, Contreras reflects on the relationship between human beings and maps, the complexity of being lost, and proposes a theoretical framework that connects the history of cartography with mathematical precision. The role of maps in exploring external and internal realities is highlighted, and it examines how they can assist us in life without losing our essence.
The work also addresses themes such as memory, oblivion, and the perception of space, using concepts like labyrinths and brain maps to illustrate the complexity of the human experience. In addition, technical and material considerations related to map creation are mentioned, as well as reflections on the act of walking and the search for direction in life. The author also refers to the influence of artists such as Richard Long and Jan Dibbets in the exploration of the map as an aesthetic field. Finally, the work concludes with a reflection on how maps help us to situate ourselves and to find ourselves, even when we are lost.
