Resumen
The image contains news about the Fine Arts Exhibition, organized by General Alberto Urdaneta, which culminated with an inauguration on December 4 in the Rectoral hall of the San Bartolomé building. With the presence of prominent personalities, the event was declared open by the President of the Republic. The exhibition included more than a thousand art objects, including sculptures and paintings by national and international artists.
In the foreign sculpture section, works such as the bust of Napoleon I by Canova and others by Bolívar, Virrey Ezpeleta, Bello, and more stood out. Busts made by master César Sighinolfi were also exhibited, such as those of Archbishop Paúl, Dr. Núñez, and General Ulloa. The Christ sculpted in wood by the artist Martínez was also highlighted.
In the painting section, a rich historical review of art was offered, from the Byzantine style to works by masters such as Michelangelo, Güerchine, Van Dick, Rubens, Raphael, Murillo, and others. Special mention was made of the outstanding contribution of Vásquez, whose compositions such as "Flight to Egypt" and "Arrest of Jesus" received praise for their drawing, composition and coloring. News published by the newspaper El Orden, No. 1, January 1-1887.
