Resumen
Caterpillar is the world's leading manufacturer of heavy machinery equipment for the agricultural, construction, oil and mining sectors, with a great recognition in industrial, economic and quality terms. For CAT (Caterpillar) the way in which it develops its operations must be directed to the customer and the satisfaction of its needs taking as a reference the fundamental principles of availability, profitability, flexibility and safety; therefore, the company's supply chain is robust and flexible, allowing it to respond to market demand without affecting the aforementioned principles. The CAT brand is represented in Colombia by Gecolsa, a company with more than 95 years of experience. Gecolsa has met the demands of the market in the areas where it is present, allowing access to services and products for heavy machinery supplied by CAT, making an important contribution to the brand and to society, since these machines are essential for the development of economic activities in the country. During the useful life of the machinery it is necessary to perform corrective and preventive maintenance, so it is necessary to ensure the supply of spare parts requested for each particular case, being a complex activity because if it is not done properly the operation performed by customers may be compromised, affecting the economic sector and society in general. The efficient supply of spare parts is one of the goals proposed by the presidency of Gecolsa, where the inventory control area is in charge of managing spare parts inventories and determining the corrections to be applied, taking into account the financial aspects of the company. It was identified that currently the levels of spare parts inventories kept in stock have increased above the historical averages due to several associated causes, resulting in a reduction of the rotation levels for the company's inventories. To solve this problem, it is proposed to make a commercial connection between suppliers worldwide authorized by CAT so that these companies can verify the inventory available in Gecolsa and generate transactions, contributing to the reduction of the inventory that currently limits the goals proposed by the company.
