Resumen
In this project we implemented a device capable of sensing the air quality of a certain place, measuring the concentrations of most of the harmful gases and particulate matter contemplated by the Colombian standard, alerting the user through visual and audible alarms when the air quality is below the standards established in the aforementioned standard. The harmful pollutants contemplated by the Colombian standard and that the device is capable of detecting are: carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, particulate matter type 10.0 and particulate matter type 2.5. Other harmful contaminants that the device is capable of detecting and that are not covered by the Colombian standard are: methane, propane and particulate matter 1.0. The device measures these contaminants because they also provide valuable information for the user's safety. The device's analog sensors were subjected to a calibration and conditioning process, so that the readings recorded by these sensors are congruent with the level of contamination in reality. The different sensors communicate with the microcontroller, which processes the analog and digital signals, conditioning them in order to calculate mainly two measurements: the current concentrations of pollutants and the air quality index. The microcontroller, having a hardware capable of connecting to the Internet through the WiFi protocol, can send the processed data to a database in the cloud. This cloud database apart from storing the data for a given period of time, can graph the data in real time, this by constructing a data dashboard, which has line graphs and radial meters, each used to show the amount of harmful pollutants in the environment and the air quality index respectively. To corroborate the correct functioning of the device, measurements were taken near an air quality index measuring station, the results obtained by the device and by the measuring station were compared, inferring the possible reasons for the differences found between the data. In addition to the test described above, a test was performed inside a house to analyze the pollutants present and their level of impact on the daily life of the residents of the property.
