Mucho se habla en Colombia acerca de la calidad académica en las instituciones de educación superior. En la Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas actualmente hay más de 8.000 estudiantes catalogados como de bajo rendimiento académico, según las reglamentaciones internas. El Consejo Superior Universitario endureció las medidas disciplinarias, como incentivo para mejorar la calidad académica. Para el grupo de investigación Udinex, cuya razón de ser es la Universidad como objeto de investigación, es necesario mirar este problema desde otra perspectiva, implicando a los actores del proceso enseñanza-aprendizaje, como son: los estudiantes, los profesores, el contexto social y los contenidos de la enseñanza.
