Resumen
This project was performed at the research group on remote sensor and aerospace technoogy (SARTAE) at Universidad Distrital Francisco Jose de Caldas. This work studies whether particle filters are a better solution to the problem of altitude estimation in a CubeSat standard pico-satellite. This is performed by assessing the performance of particle filters compared to Kalman filters, in versions KF, EKF and UKF, in terms of error, variance, correlation coefficient and computational cost. In this scope, the proposed altitude estimation system is built by the design of estimation and updating sub-systems, the main blocks of estimation algorithms. Simulated results are shown in tables and plots. From these results, convincing conclusions can be drawn about the behavior of particle filters with respect to their competing alternative: Kalman filters. These conclusions can provide the necessary information for making suitable decisions in the implementation of estimation systems for CubeSat standard pico-satellites in U1 configuration.
