Resumen
This work aims to characterize the perception of students in the first semester of engineering, about their way to understand the importance of the labs in mechanical physics. To this end, we established four categories of analysis, such as: (1) perceptions about use of laboratory practice, (2) perceptions about scientific method, (3) perceptions about nature of science, and finally preconceptions about force, movement, speed and acceleration. The main object was to contribute to the comprehension of the sense in physics teaching on the context of engineering education. The research methodology, was based on data analysis, as a qualitative research approach, which produces findings but not through statistical or quantitative methods. This research was made by participant observation to the practical classes of mechanical physics laboratory. In conclusion, we can say that in general students do not find any special functionality of the physics knowledge to their thought as an engineer.
