Abstract

The projection system of a country defines the general parameters in which its cartographic information will be governed. In Colombia, two projection systems have been mainly used, until 2005 the ARENA or Datum Bogotá projection system was used, which consisted of five Different origins on the country, followed by this, the Gauss Kruger projections are established, which adds a further origin to the west of the country to update the information of the San Andrés and Providencia islands, the two systems are characterized by being conforming projections, that is, they preserve the relationship between their angles-, when making the necessary changes in the projection system, it was observed that there was a displacement in coordinates of approximately 500 meters. On May 14, 2020, the use of Unique National Origin or cartographic projection according to CTM12 for Colombia is approved, in relation to these changes it is decided to present the following writing, in the first instance the development of an equidistant projection system for the territory is contemplated followed by a comparison in areas and distances between the projection systems in force in the country and the proposed projection, in this way it will be possible to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of an equidistant projection for the nation and study the convenience of the projection change to the national single origin.
