Resumen
Any theatrical production demands a considerable amount of table work. It allows to lay the foundations of the production of a drama on the stage. The present paper gives an account of the analysis before the staging of the play God of Carnage, written in 2006 by Yasmina Reza, which became a box office hit both in Europe and the USA. The author undertakes this task by inquiring into who Yasmina Reza is, inquiring about her context and writing style, discussing from then on about the play structure, main conflicts, and its characters. This paper addresses God of Carnage as a piece, based on the studies on dramatic genres written by Eric Bentley and Virgilio Ariel. The analysis of the main conflict and theme is conducted from an ethological point of view, considering the human being as an animal, and the relationship between it and its surroundings, based on the publications by Desmond Morris. The present paper proposes Reza’s play as a sign of the relevance and validity of the piece as a genre, displaying God of Carnage as a mirror of the conflicts that any human being must face in our contemporary society, especially one in which language, civility, and political correctness have been conceived by ruling out its animal nature.
