In the framework of institutional efforts to strengthen environmental sustainability and enhance waste management efficiency, this internship project was developed with the objective of supporting the recertification process under Version No. 5 of the International Zero Waste Management System Standard at the Central Level of Prosperidad Social. This work aligns with the organization’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices that contribute to the circular economy and the mitigation of environmental impacts. The main purpose of the project is to ensure compliance with the requirements established by the standard through the implementation of key actions across three different phases, aimed at strengthening internal waste management capacities. These phases are outlined as follows: Phase 1) weighing, storing, and recording the solid waste generated; Phase 2) implementing awareness and training strategies focused on the 9Rs: reject, rethink/redesign, reduce, reuse, repair, restore, remanufacture, recover, and recycle; and Phase 3) conducting environmental drills simulating fire and flood scenarios to enhance institutional emergency preparedness and response. This project holds particular significance in the context of current sustainability challenges, by fostering an organizational culture based on responsible principles and aligned with Zero Waste goals. The results achieved not only demonstrate Prosperidad Social’s commitment to sustainable management but also lay the foundation for continuous improvement in this area. This report details the activities carried out, the findings obtained, the lessons learned, and the recommendations for future processes, with the aim of consolidating a waste management system that meets high international standards and fosters a positive impact on the environment.
