Resumen
This graduation project aimed to improve the Hazardous Waste Management Plan for the mechanical workshop, with the goal of minimizing environmental impacts and occupational risks arising from poor waste management, such as oils, refrigerants, batteries, oil filters, air filters, among others. The methodology was based on three phases. In Phase I: Diagnosis, hazardous wastes generated were identified and characterized, and the workshop areas with the greatest impact were evaluated. In Phase II: Data Collection, direct observations, analysis of internal records, and a survey of staff were conducted to understand their practices and knowledge regarding waste handling. Finally, in Phase III: Analysis, tools such as the SWOT matrix and the Ishikawa diagram were used to identify root causes of failures and propose solutions based on the findings. The results revealed shortcomings in the implementation of the current plan, staff misinformation regarding waste classification, and improper use of recyclable materials. As a conclusion, a redesign of the Comprehensive Hazardous Waste Management Plan was proposed, suggesting adjustments for each type of waste found in the workshop, from storage to delivery to authorized managers. Additionally, a staff training strategy was designed, which included practical training sessions and awareness campaigns on the importance of proper solid waste management
