Resumen
In this section of the Voces y Regiones program, the discussion focuses on the role of peace judges in Colombia, as established by Law 497 of 1999. This law regulates the justice of peace system as an alternative conflict resolution mechanism within communities. It allows peace judges to be democratically elected by the people in their respective territories, enabling them to act as impartial mediators in disputes related to neighborhoods, families, or communities, promoting peaceful solutions without the need to resort to the formal judicial system.
The conversation highlights how this model aims to bring justice closer to the citizens, particularly in areas where access to formal courts is limited. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about this mechanism so that communities can turn to peace judges as an effective alternative for resolving conflicts, fostering dialogue, and strengthening social harmony.
