Resumen
The search to improve the quality of alloys led us to improve the techniques used to quantify this quality, which leads to continuous improvement in the chemical attack techniques in metallographic studies. The traditional techniques of attack do not allow a detailed analysis of the microstructural evolution of the mechanisms that govern the solidification also of the present phases. For this reason, color metallography will be analyzed and used in aluminum alloys to reveal the microstructural characteristics that conventional (black and white) attack methods do not reveal. This work seeks to highlight the benefits and differences between traditional metallography (black-white) and color metallography. Therefore, from a used aluminum piston from an AKT XM 200 motorcycle, 5 specimens were extracted, 2 were used to compare the techniques of traditional metallography (black-white) and color metallography. The remaining 3 were treated thermally and analyzed by color metallography. It is expected that with the color images can obtain data and information that is not visible with traditional metallography.
