This project presents a model to estimate the impact on the quality of service for the telecommunications system of a smart city using Wi-Fi and the LTE system in the unlicensed band. Field tests of the network impairment model were conducted, transmitting in the LTE standard in the unlicensed band along with Wi-Fi transmission networks, and applied to a test infrastructure in a smart city communications system. The objective is to test a telecommunications network using LTE (Long Term Evolution) transmission technology in the unlicensed band over a network that allows bidirectional information sending between nodes, advanced measurement, and variable collection. The information is analyzed to compare its functionality, with the simulation of the test infrastructure and the solution to create communication links in non-line-of-sight systems in the unlicensed band within a Smart City application network, specifically for the monitoring and video surveillance system of the municipality of Chía, Cundinamarca, with real-time video transmission and river level and meteorological data. The project is supported by the GITUD Research Group of the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas, where various projects related to telecommunications, financed by the University's Office of Research (ODI), are being advanced. These projects have contributed to the training of doctoral and master's researchers, developing projects in control, alternative energy sources, energy management, communications, and power electronics with the firm purpose of becoming a national reference in the area. The project is directed by Professor Juan Carlos Gómez, who has extensive experience in the telecommunications area at the Universidad Distrital, and co-directed by Professor Elvis Eduardo Gaona, director of the research group. This project is presented to the Faculty of Engineering of the University for development and to qualify for the Master's degree in Mobile Telecommunications.
