Aplicación de la potencialidad de integración de un DBMS con Python y una herramienta SIG para la selección de la muestra en el estudio de encuestas origen y destino domiciliaria

Having information about infrastructure and other variables related to mobility are key for the success of formulation and prioritization of projects. Such information is often not available in municipalities in Colombia. Studies in urban and/or regional mobility patterns in municipalities often use Origin Destination (OD) surveys based on households for gathering information for letting its characterization and among other possible analyses. The methodologies for OD surveys include into its stages a sample selection, this activity that normally is done of manual way, and this is associated to experience of the work team, information, tools, and budget. Taking advantage of potentiality by integrating computational tools for using and distribution free, for data bases administration and management and geographic information, is developed in this work a proposal to get better or to optimize the process of sample selection into surveys based on households, with elaboration of algorithms in a programming language. Specifically, is used PostgreSQL as DBMS, PyScripter as IDE for Python, and QGIS as geographic viewfinder, achieving a substantial improvement in the activity of the selection of samples, also optimizing the reprocesses for when there is a change in the initial parameters or due to special requirements. Finally, it can be concluded that the computational tools used in the development of this proposal not only allowed the development and optimization of the sample selection process in the study of the origin and destination survey based on households, but also facilitated reprocessing for when the size sample is modified. Additionally, this proposal shows that many of the common processes and problems in the engineering field are susceptible to improvement with the use of computational tools.
