Abstract

In this edition of Voces y Regiones, Minister of the Interior Fernando Carrillo Flórez and the participants welcome the program, highlighting the importance of citizen participation in building democracy. Special emphasis is placed on the role of young people in social and political environments, recognizing their ability to drive change and bring new perspectives to decision-making. In Colombia, there are various mechanisms for youth participation, such as the Youth Councils, where young people can express their ideas and propose solutions for their communities. Other spaces include citizen oversight committees, which allow them to monitor and control public administration, and youth councils, which serve as platforms for discussing important issues and presenting initiatives. Through these spaces, young people can influence local and national policies, strengthening democracy and promoting a more inclusive and representative society. However, challenges remain, such as the need for greater awareness of these mechanisms and the enhancement of their impact on government decision-making.
