Resumen
This thesis project presents an analysis of the use of color in the contemporary dance work "The Law of the Pendulum," by the collective Seis Grados, based on the principles of the painter Piet Mondrian. The research explores how Mondrian's pure colors (yellow, blue, red, white, and black) and planar geometry are manifested in the work through videos and choreography, examining whether color influences the dramaturgy and the dancers' interpretation. The meanings of color are analyzed from various perspectives, such as psychology, chromotherapy, and color theories, to determine their impact on the aesthetic experience of the piece and its relationship to the pendular movement that inspires the work.
The analysis reveals that, while color is a key visual component in "The Law of the Pendulum," its influence on the dancers' interpretation varies throughout the work. At times, the color reinforces the concept and themes of the piece, while at others it functions primarily as an element of spatial design. The research highlights the importance of considering the meaning of color in the creation of contemporary dance works, as it can enrich the symbolism of the performance and the dancers' interpretation. The study also includes descriptions of the movement solos of each performer and how they relate to the assigned colors, concluding that the conscious integration of color can enhance the dramaturgy and visual impact of a dance work.
