Resumen
This creative and interpretative work emerges from a research-creation process developed over a period of more than two years, as part of the specialization in Colombian traditional dance within the Dance Arts Curriculum Project at the Faculty of Arts ASAB, Francisco José de Caldas University. The proposal stems from a personal and artistic motivation of the author to make visible traditional practices linked to the territory of Vereda Soatama, in Villapinzón, Cundinamarca, a place with which he maintains a deep and meaningful connection. Throughout this process, the author identifies a rupture in the transmission of the community’s natural and dance-related practices, understood as spontaneous bodily expressions shaped by the social, cultural, and emotional environment—ways of inhabiting and relating to the world. In response, the project proposes a creative and interpretative process that, through traditional rhythms such as torbellino, merengue, and rumba, seeks to reconstruct and activate memory through choreography, working with a group of performers closely connected to the community. The process culminates in the stage production titled “LA RAÍZ” (The Root), a collective creation that conveys intimate, every day, and shared emotions through the body and memory, as a form of tribute and retribution to the territory and its people.
