Resumen
This monograph paper analytically enhances the novel Garabato, by Colombian writer José Antonio Osorio Lizarazo, making use of the sociocritical theory outlined by Edmond Cros. This research aims to find the semiotico-ideological relationships that justify the work’s genotext; hence, its meaning in depth. To meet the genotext, a historical route throughout the author’s social background and his bonds with some political and cultural movements is conducted. Furthermore, a synthesis of his novel works is made along with a discussion of his concept of social novel with the sociology of the novel theory to get to a sociocritical analysis proposition. Finally, a study of Garabato’s intertext and interdiscourse is realized with the ideologies, the historical context, and the linguistic characteristics that assemble it. The body of the analysis is composed of some samples, words, and characters which reveal the collective subject of Colombian melting pot individuals in the late 19th century and early 20th. This paper intends to reclaim the pieces of Osorio with its academic spread and arises as a proposal to contribute to the lack of literary analysis made upon itself.
