Resumen
The National Library of Colombia is the institution that ensures the recovery, preservation and access to the collective memory of the country, represented by the bibliographic heritage and academic institutions in any physical media. It is also the national entity responsible for the planning and design of policies related to the reading and public libraries, as well as its promotion and encouragement. However, the BNC has had to assume a series of changes, or at least questioning, which respond to the new movements of the information in connection with the recovery, preservation and transmission of these different materials to the specific communities that may be interested, and taking into account the emergence of the bibliographic production in the information age. In effect, the layout of the new scenarios in which moves the Library, proposes a series of metamorphoses tailored to the needs of the new user, expressed through administrative policies and changes in the ways of conceiving the Library, that it would not be possible without making a study looking to the past. Thus, this writing is to discuss the social representations on the Library, from the different provisions ideological, political and social surrounding it, for if ententer and reveal the forms as are gestated the senses and meanings provided in their history, ready today in various forms of construction of the social imaginary about this.
