Ítem Análisis de la capacidad de soporte (CBR) de suelos limo arenosos estabilizados con silicato de sodio, adicionado en un 70% de la humedad óptima de compactaciónMuñoz Avendaño, Linda Yeraldin; Pastrán Beltrán, Carlos GregorioAs a continuity of the project "Analysis of the mechanical behaviour of sand-silty soils stabilized with sodium silicate" developed by the students, Milton Guillermo Molano and Gina Graciela Leiton, this study was carried out, using the same type of soil. As a measurement parameters were taken the results of the CBR tests. The purpose of the investigation was to determine the support capacity of sand-silty soils stabilized with sodium silicate in presence of water. In order to do this, it was necessary to determine the requirements for the samples and characterize them, to prepare them (by adding or not sodium silicate) and to determine and compare their CBR values, before and after the immersion. As a results, we found that no stabilized sand-silty soils suffered significant decrease in support capacity (approximately 40.21% of CBR), when they get in contact with water. On the other hand, in the stabilized sand-silty soils (by using sodium silicate), the affectation in its support capacity was lower (approximately 10.31% of CBR). This is due to the stability effects of the silicate in the cementing properties of their particles, that improved the resistance to the erosive processes of water. This generates durability and functionality in the pavement structures. Some laboratory tests were carried out which allow us to characterize the material used and its properties. The construction of the model was done at the Universidad Distrital facilities, more specifically in the area assigned by the Technological headquarters physical resources department. A wooden Structure was constructed which allowed us to emulate a section of soil subjected to strong lateral loads, setting the wall’s geotechnical behavior and some deformations which were measured with high precision thanks to the topology equipment we acquired. A trapeze-shaped wooden box was constructed with specific dimensions and the recycled tyres were arranged so that they compact the soil material in-situ on the inside of the frontal side of the wooden box. This in order to generate a thrust load gradually adding granular material so that we can evaluate distances with high precision (millimeters) thanks to the help of topological equipment. Readings of each retaining element were taken as the load was increasing. This procedure was performed until it reached its point of failure. Thus, a parameter was obtained so that it could be compared with a conventional retaining wall.
