This thesis aims to develop a GIS viewer embedded in an HTML page as an interactive visualization tool for research results. It stemmed from the need for an accessible and adaptable alternative for publishing thematic maps in web environments, allowing users to interact with layers of geographic information without installing specialized software. The project incorporates open web technologies—HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and the open-source Leaflet library—along with spatial data in GeoJSON format, OpenStreetMap base maps, and ESRI satellite imagery, all hosted on GitHub Pages, guaranteeing free and public access to the viewer from any browser. The results demonstrate that the system allows for the efficient querying and downloading of geographic information, providing a guide for serving spatial data in open and low-cost research. It is concluded that this type of web viewer represents a flexible, lightweight, and low-cost solution for disseminating scientific results with a spatial component.
(Universidad Distrital Francisco Jose de Caldas) Flores Maldonado, Andres Felipe; Tiempos Mendoza, Jonathan Sneider; Rozo García, Pablo Emilio; Rozo García, Pablo Emilio [0000-0002-2587-8130]
This project involved the theoretical automation (PLC programming and simulation) of a wastewater treatment plant to improve process quality, particularly energy consumption. Additionally, a safety system was designed to ensure the control and protection of the plant and its operators. The design was based on an existing plant that processes wastewater generated by a pig farm with approximately 10,000 head of cattle. The project successfully developed and met its initial objectives, resulting in an efficient control system and an optimal SCADA system that allows for the monitoring of the entire treatment plant. This ensures the accurate reading and collection of data and events occurring within the plant, and also enables predictive maintenance.
The work details the layout design of the piping (HP/LP) for the Commonwealth LNG project's fuel gas system, transforming basic engineering into an optimized 3D model. Using an EPC-type methodology and international standards (ASME, API, NFPA), software such as SmartPlant 3D and Navisworks was employed to ensure a modular, interference-free design. The result is a validated digital model that centralizes the generation of isometrics and material lists, demonstrating that advanced design is key to ensuring safety, constructability, and economic feasibility in large-scale plants.
This document presents a simulation-based study to determine the optimal number of agents in Falabella's regional contact center. Using the Holt-Winters Additive forecasting method (MAPE 10.25%) and M/M/c queuing theory simulation, the research demonstrates that the current workforce of 85 agents is significantly oversized. The analysis reveals that reducing to 40 agents maintains the same service output (332 calls) while improving processing efficiency from 99.4% to 99.8%, resulting in annual cost savings of $594,000 (52.9% reduction). The study integrates time series analysis, goodness-of-fit tests, and discrete event simulation to provide a comprehensive workforce optimization framework that balances service quality with operational costs.
Professor Ricardo García Duarte analyzes the complex reality of the war in Syria after seven years of conflict, highlighting the inefficacy of ceasefires due to the overlapping interests of powers such as Russia, Iran, and the United States. The analysis underscores how the presence of the Islamic State and ethnic tensions involving the Kurdish people have degraded the conflict, turning it into a humanitarian tragedy with no clear diplomatic solution in the short term, while the al-Assad regime consolidates its position with international support.
On the other hand, the Rector examines the crisis of identity and governance within the European Union, epitomized by Angela Merkel's struggles to form a government in Germany and the rise of right-wing nationalist populism following the migration crisis. Finally, he addresses the "Never Again" student movement in the United States, which emerged as an unprecedented civil response against the unregulated sale of high-caliber weapons, challenging the political influence of the National Rifle Association and establishing a new electoral horizon in response to the controversial proposals of the Trump administration
