Por tal manera, dentro de toda la riqueza cultural que se encuentra en la ciudad de Bogotá, tenemos la comunidad Raizal, un grupo étnico marcado por la segregación, el racismo y la falta de oportunidades, puesto que empezaron a surgir las grandes migraciones hacia el continente desde las islas del archipiélago, y que en su momento, era importante el servicio militar para conseguir empleo o el acceso a la educación, los Raizales en la actualidad, vienen trabajando de la mano con diferentes entidades del Distrito, permitiendo la ampliación del conocimiento alrededor de su cultura, el aprendizaje mutuo y aprovechando las oportunidades que ofrece Bogotá como ciudad, para suplir estas necesidades y demás derechos fundamentales (Bogotá. Alcaldía Mayor. Instituto de Patrimonio Cultural - IDPC, 2011). No obstante, los diferentes aportes que ha brindado la comunidad Raizal a los capitalinos se encuentran desde el Jardín Botánico de Bogotá “José Celestino Mutis”, la necesidad de aprender sobre los usos que le dan a las plantas, entendiendo la cosmovisión de la comunidad y fortaleciendo el lazo de unidad entre las personas que integran esta comunidad y el Distrito.
