En Colombia el cáñamo industrial ha tenido un proceso arduo a nivel político para su reglamentación y aprobación como materia prima para la industria. Debido a que ha sido estigmatizado por pertenecer a la familia del cannabis, sin embargo, hay que acotar que es una planta no psicoactiva al tener un índice inferior del 1% en THC.
