The development of these karst system depends on several geological factors, climatological conditions and others like time of exposure of the rock (weatherinf related) or plant cover. Four units with karst potential are proposed in the Santander department based on bibliographic analysis which occupy approximately 14% of the area: Paleozoic Limestones, Lower Cretaceous Limestones 1, Lower Cretaceous Limestones 2 and Upper Cretaceous Limestones. The map of the karst potential of Santander includes both karstic units and a Karst Landforms Registry with the description of 218 landforms (92 caves, 72 sinkholes, 30 holes, among others). En el departamento de Santander (Colombia) se encuentran múltiples sistemas kársticos que incluyen tanto geoformas en superficie (exokarst) como su desarrollo subterráneo (endokarst). El desarrollo de estos sistemas kársticos depende de diversos factores geológicos, climatológicos y otros como tiempo de exposición de la roca (relacionada con la meteorización) o cobertura vegetal. A partir del análisis bibliográfico se proponen cuatro unidades potencialmente karstificables en el departamento de Santander las cuales ocupan aproximadamente el 14% del área total: Calizas del Paleozoico, Calizas del Cretácico Inferior 1, Calizas del Cretácico Inferior 2 y Calizas del Cretácico Superior.
