Tragedia y representaciones de lo trágico: performatividad del cuerpo violentado y vulnerado en un contexto poscovid-19

Abstract

Identifying tragedy means allowing oneself to acknowledge the tensions of a society beset by disaster and recognizing the subject’s fate in the face of the misfortune of existence. Approaches to the tragic reveal the scope of its structures and propose hypotheses for the construction of new languages in its diverse forms of representation. Although tragedy has been extensively studied within the fields of theatre, literature, and philosophy, interdisciplinary articulations make possible perspectives grounded in the plastic and visual arts. From this point onward, the study of theoretical foundations enables an analysis of concepts, notions, and meanings in relation to the axes proposed in order to identify representational systems within tragic proposals. Furthermore, hermeneutic reading, iconographic and iconological analysis, comparative study, conceptual reconstruction, and the recognition of individual experience gradually weave a path toward the exploration of visual proposals. The creative process, therefore, draws upon the systematization of experimental models and their implicit interconnection with the vicissitudes of artistic production. Thus, in relation to all of its parts, consideration is given to the scope of symbolic language and its possibilities for constructing tragic narratives: recognizing the problems of language is acknowledging the conflict inherent in existence itself in relation to others. This repetitive process of the human condition and the individual’s struggle with themselves charts a path toward their destiny, namely, suicide.
