Resumen
The purpose of this study is to know the consumption characteristics, needs, expectations and perspective of e-sports by the students of the Francisco José de Caldas District University. For the study, a general analysis is carried out through a historical journey on the origins of e- sports throughout the 20th century, in order to give a context of its beginnings and know the influence that led them to be what they are today. A contextual framework that provides us with information on how this sport has expanded in Colombia, Spain and the rest of the world, taking references such as France and South Korea for being considered pioneers in regulating their players as professional athletes and e-sports like a sport. Next, the data collection is carried out by means of a virtual survey of university students, and a focus group of 5 students, who let us know about their tastes, time and consumption in video games; the data by which they are analyzed in a quantitative and qualitative way to establish those general characteristics and to know their opinions regarding whether e-sports, if they are considered as a sport.
