Evaluación e Implementación de GLPI como Solución para la Gestión de Activos de TI en las Áreas de OATI y Red de Datos de la Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas

Abstract

Information Technology (IT) asset management at Francisco José de Caldas District University faced critical challenges in security and reliability due to its reliance on manual methods and spreadsheets, resulting in data inconsistencies, vulnerabilities, and poor traceability. The main objective of this project was to comprehensively optimize the asset management process through the advanced implementation of GLPI (Gestionnaire Libre de Parc Informatique), a free software solution, specifically in the areas of OATI and Data Network. The methodology included a detailed diagnosis of the environment, followed by an implementation plan in a controlled environment. The execution phases covered the installation and configuration of GLPI on a Docker server (Linux/Ubuntu), the vital integration of the GLPI Agent for the automation of hardware and software inventory, the use of the DataInjection plugin for the migration and mass loading of historical inventories, and the crucial linking with LDAP (Active Directory) and OAuth2 to ensure centralized, robust, and secure user authentication. As a result of this intervention, the University moved from a reactive model to an automated and centralized one, reducing operational errors and asset registration times by more than 80% and establishing an asset management platform with a verified accuracy of 98%, laying the foundation for more efficient, secure, and scalable technology management in the future.
