Resumen
The radio program Voces y Regiones features an interview with Carmen Sánchez, a prominent social leader from La Guajira. Throughout the conversation, she discusses the structural issues affecting the region, such as the lack of access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities despite its wealth in natural resources like coal and wind energy.
Sánchez highlights the inequality faced by Guajira’s communities, where the wealth generated does not benefit local residents. She denounces corruption and mismanagement of resources and stresses the need for better governance. She also addresses the role of women in politics, pointing out that they are often included in electoral lists merely to meet quotas rather than to be given real decision-making power.
Furthermore, she advocates for greater female participation in leadership roles and policymaking, emphasizing that their presence should be meaningful rather than symbolic. Lastly, she calls for unity and the strengthening of education from an early age as a fundamental tool for the development of the region and the country.
