This book is the result of more than five years of research, the purpose of which was to promote a public education policy in Colombia aimed at lightning risk management. In this sense, in addition to the technical criteria associated with lightning protection, the social and cultural context is also addressed, as well as the climatic, geographical and economic conditions of each region. This text does not propose a strategy to reduce the risk of lightning, but rather a methodology to provide education and mitigate the risk due to this natural phenomenon. Throughout the document, the most used methodologies in the world regarding the prevention of risk due to atmospheric electrical discharges are synthesized and explained, from a pedagogical and educational perspective. This review and the results of a survey applied to experts in this problem are the input to identify the most effective means of dissemination for the promotion. and lightning prevention training in the rural population. The proposed educational methodology must be part of the formulation of a public policy that directly addresses the danger of lightning in Colombia, within the framework of the National Disaster Risk Management System (SNGRD). This lightning prevention policy has the potential to be a powerful tool to contribute to saving lives, as well as achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through risk management due to atmospheric electrical discharges.spa
