The image contains a news item about: "Public Education". On the morning of July 28, the director of the Lancastrian school of this capital, Juan de Dios Haro, gave the public a general contest or examination of the subjects he teaches to 150 children who are currently in the school under his charge. They expressed the use they have in reading, writing, arithmetic and drawing principles. The children's progress is notable, especially in writing, in which they learn a beautiful form of the letter i in a short time. The teacher also showed the progress of his disciples in the ninth and tenth classes, added to the school at his proposal and as if by means of a trial.
