Resumen
The image contains news about discontent with a recent theatrical performance by Villalba's company, which took place on July 19, 1835. He bought tickets expecting a comedy dedicated to the fair sex, but was disappointed by the quality of the show.
He describes the work as an old-fashioned show, comparing it to the times of Calderón de la Barca and Lope de Vega. He complains about a confusing plot, meaningless characters, and dialogue unworthy of an enlightened audience in the nineteenth century. He claims that the company only avoided a more intense protest because of the good reputation it had from previous performances.
Furthermore, he criticizes the dancer's indecent clothing, which caused the ladies to blush and the parents to worry. He suggests that the Bogotá public is not accustomed to shows of that nature and advocates maintaining higher standards. Finally, he raises the question of why introduce practices that could pervert customs, pointing out the need to be republican and virtuous rather than imitate the dissolute courts of Thamasis and the Seine. News published by the newspaper El Constitucional de Cundinamarca, Bogotá (200), July 19-1835.
