| dc.description | Context: Studies of Science, Technology and Society are an approximation towards a third culture because they allow us to think the developments of science and technology with a humanistic and scientific approach.Method: This article presents and proposes an approach between the humanities and science. From this perspective, we develop throughout the text: First, a reflection on the social sciences, technology and society; second, the definition of the third culture as the way of approaching the study of contemporary techno-scientific developments in science and the humanities.Results: What results from this reflection allows us to progress significantly towards a new view from social science on the current developments of science and technology. It is possible to conclude that is urgent and pertinent that our students had a critical and proactive approach to the new challenges that science and technology poses.Conclusions: Science, and particularly social science, must be able to lead us to a third culture, so that we could aspire to a science with conscience to help citizens understand what science has learned about the functioning of the universe, Neuroscience on the human brain, geoengineering on climate change, synthetic biology on the new properties of matter, biotechnology on crops and transgenic foods, and so on. | en-US |
| dc.description | Contexto: Los Estudios de Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad son una aproximación hacia una tercera cultura, en el sentido que nos permite pensar los desarrollos de la ciencia y la tecnología desde una perspectiva humanista y científica.Método: Este artículo presenta y propone un acercamiento ubicado entre las humanidades y las ciencias. Desde esta perspectiva, a lo largo del texto se desarrolla, en primer lugar, una reflexión sobre las ciencias sociales, tecnología y sociedad; y en segundo lugar, se define la tercera cultura como la forma de acercar al estudio de los desarrollos tecnocientíficos contemporáneos a la ciencia y a las humanidades.Resultados: Lo que resulta de esta reflexión nos permite avanzar de manera significativa hacia una nueva mirada desde las ciencias sociales sobre los actuales desarrollos de la ciencia y la tecnología. Es urgente y pertinente que nuestros educandos tengan un pensamiento crítico y propositivo frente a los nuevos retos que nos plantea la ciencia y la tecnología.Conclusiones: La ciencia y en particular las ciencias sociales deben poder saltar juntas y conducirnos hacia una tercera cultura y, de esta manera, aspirar a una ciencia consciente para ayudar a los ciudadanos a entender lo que la ciencia ha logrado saber sobre el funcionamiento del universo, la neurociencia sobre el cerebro humano, la geoingenieria sobre el cambio climático, la biología sintética sobre la nuevas propiedades de la materia, la biotecnología sobre los cultivos y alimentos transgénicos, y así sucesivamente. | es-ES |
