Resumen
This radio program episode addresses the issue of gender violence in the Vaupés department of Colombia. The interviewee, Nury del Carmen López Espinosa, shares her experience in the social sector and her work at the General Comptroller’s Office, highlighting the lack of awareness about Law 1257 and the absence of shelters for abused women.
López Espinosa emphasizes that physical violence is the most prevalent form in the region, and women often remain silent due to fear and reprisals. Structural factors such as machismo, lack of educational and job opportunities, and social disintegration are discussed as perpetuating this cycle of violence. The need for better institutional coordination and awareness campaigns to prevent the generational transmission of these behaviors is also highlighted.
