Resumen
The image contains news about the National Academy of Music, which offered a small concert on Saturday the 17th, standing out for its modesty and promise of quality. Despite its brief existence, the academy featured a fifty-member orchestra, including 26 string players and a choir of ten, all new to the art, demonstrating notable progress. The perseverance and dedication of the founder, Mr. Price, the new Director, Mr. Caicedo Rojas, teachers and students, stood out in overcoming difficulties and presenting a well-proportioned set with colorful and well-cast effects.
The concert included pieces from the Italian lyrical repertoire, highlighting a performance of Gounod's "Ave Maria" and a march with an introduction. Particularly praised were the prelude to "Masnadieri" and the flute and clarinet duet of "Puritani". The performance of trombone and clarinet solos overcame notable difficulties, and the chorus of "Hernani" was repeated with significant improvements. Although lack of space prevents further details, all collaborators were applauded, highlighting the figure of the founder, Jorge Price, as a symbol of civic and selfless perseverance. News published by the newspaper La Voz Nacional, No. 10, May 31-1884.
