Resumen
This study addresses the problem of animal abandonment in rural areas, specifically in the Los Soches area of Bogotá. The research revealed that this situation is deeply naturalized in rural communities, influenced by structural factors such as poverty, lack of access to veterinary services, and limited institutional and regulatory presence. Through documentary analysis and fieldwork, it was identified that abandoned animals, when they become feral, generate health, environmental, and economic impacts that directly affect the quality of life in these communities. To contribute to the solution, a comprehensive and territorial management model is proposed that involves all sectors: state, academic, community, and civil society. This model includes strengthening regulations, promoting environmental education campaigns, implementing population control actions through free sterilizations and vaccinations, and creating participatory spaces that facilitate reporting and monitoring of the problem. Finally, the research highlights the need to expand the focus to include other non-traditional animal species in rural productive contexts, such as cattle, pigs, and goats, which are also victims of abandonment. This work represents a pioneering contribution to understanding and addressing animal abandonment in rural areas of Colombia, promoting public policies, educational initiatives, and governance strategies that guarantee animal welfareand ecosystem balance.
