Resumen
In this interview from the "Voices and Regions" program, we talk about the work of the Community Action Boards in the department of Chocó, through the voice of Flavio, president of the Federation of Community Action Boards of Chocó. Flavio explains that the Community Action Boards are committed to identifying and resolving the needs of the communities, despite the difficulties in establishing effective relationships with local leaders and the lack of government support. The Boards are responsible for managing projects, such as the improvement of streams and the training of their members, to strengthen the community organization. Flavio highlights the lack of resources and institutional support as a major obstacle to the development of the region, and emphasizes the need for rulers to understand the role of the Community Action Boards as facilitators of community progress, beyond political disputes.
In the future, the Community Action Boards in Chocó seek to strengthen themselves as key actors in regional development, promoting participation in development plans and citizen oversight to ensure that the works respond to the true needs of the communities. Flavio also highlights the structural problems of Chocó, such as the lack of basic infrastructure, the lack of opportunities for young people and the neglect in areas such as education and recreation.
