Resumen
The image contains news about the topic of theater and responds to the criticism and censorship that this form of cultural expression has received. It refers to a decree of the Government of December 1831 and the criticism directed at the theater, considering it demoralizing. The author defends the importance of theater as a practice that does not corrupt morals, unlike other forms of entertainment. He argues that theater can be a tool for civility and culture, providing morally uplifting entertainment. He rejects the idea that theater is harmful and maintains that it is a means of transmitting well-written moral stories, funny or with tragic elements, which can enrich the mind and foster wisdom. He highlights the idea that the theatrical works performed are the product of pure, honest and enlightened authors, whose creations contribute positively to society. The author acknowledges that, on some occasions, indecorous plays have been performed, but attributes this to the audience's lack of virtue and defends the idea that theater, when performed correctly, seeks to instruct and improve the audience. News published by the newspaper El Constitucional De Cundinamarca, Bogotá (87), May 19-1833.
