Resumen
This project focuses on the modernization of the Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) in airports across Colombia, managed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Colombia (Aerocivil). The initiative aimed to upgrade outdated infrastructure and improve security systems to enhance the efficiency, availability, and security of meteorological observation systems. An initial diagnostic revealed that 24 out of 49 airports were operating with outdated software versions (MetConsole 2.0) and obsolete hardware, exposing the system to critical vulnerabilities. The proposed solution involved the implementation of advanced technologies such as Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI), SD-WAN, Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW), and DMZ, enhancing security and connectivity between airports and the control center in Bogotá. Additionally, a comprehensive transition and implementation plan was developed, including the training of technical, operational, and administrative personnel. This project has a significant impact on operational safety and air traffic management efficiency, ensuring real-time availability of meteorological data crucial for flight takeoff and landing decisions.
