Abstract

Singers interested in bolero performance face a scarcity of information on key textual-stylistic and vocal-stylistic aspects of the genre, which makes it difficult to interpret and perform that captures the sonic essence of the bolero. For this reason, a brief inquiry is made about the history of the bolero, the life of Elena Burke, her participation as a woman in the bolero and the role of women in this musical tradition. In addition to the interpretative exploration and analysis of textual and vocal-stylistic elements in Elena Burke's vocal performance, based on the boleros "Palabras," "Tú, mi rosa azul" and "Dos gardenias", as well as the description of the author's personal process in interpreting these same songs. The document provides significant information about essential elements for the bolero interpretation.
