The image contains news about the appointment of Mr. Jacinto Bernal as a teacher, by the Directorate of Public Instruction. Mr. Bernal took the corresponding exams for 3 days to qualify as a teacher. The article mentions that on the first day of exams, Mr. Bernal presented tests related to reading, Spanish grammar, geography and arithmetic. On the second day, Mr. Bernal underwent the practice of pedagogy. For this, a group of 20 children from the attached primary school was taken and Mr. Bernal had to give a reading lesson to the lower and upper classes; another on writing, Spanish grammar, geography, music and singing and another on calisthenics. For the geography lesson, Mr. Bernal drew on the board a map of Panama that the children had to replicate on their blackboards and for the singing lesson he sang one of the hymns studied at the School. On the third day, he presented the tests regarding geometry, accounting, physics, chemistry, drawing and legislation on public education. Once all these tests were completed, the board of examiners unanimously determined to grant him the high school teacher diploma with a salary of $480, in accordance with the provisions of article 274 of the organic decree of primary public education.
