Resumen
This thesis proposes the design and development of a new version of a mobile application that integrates augmented reality (AR) and geolocation to enhance wayfinding, location, and the interactive experience of the university community within the Faculty of Technology. The solution provides contextual information and points of interest overlaid onto the real environment, with stable anchoring of digital objects and visually guided efficient navigation. The proposal responds to insufficient signage, frequent infrastructure changes, and underutilization of available technological capabilities, which hinder the daily mobility of students, faculty, and visitors especially newcomers. The project also addresses issues of accuracy, high latency, system immaturity, limited extensibility, and limited user appeal based on the initial application, presenting an opportunity to modernize and better leverage the existing technological infrastructure. Methodologically, the study adopts an exploratory, descriptive, and explanatory approach, supported by data collection through observation and surveys to evaluate usability, the accuracy of digital overlays, and performance on iOS and Android. Development will be managed using Scrum, integrated with the software development life cycle emphasizing incremental deliveries and continuous improvement. Technologically, the project will employ Unity, AR technologies, and geolocation services, with spatial mapping and motion-tracking techniques supported by artificial intelligence. The tool is expected to reduce the time required to locate spaces and lay the groundwork for future integrations with similar university services, contributing to innovation efficient resource use, and a more intuitive and modern campus experience.
