Resumen
The image contains news about Mr. Dantec Florencio O'Leary, former General of Colombia and Chargé d'Affaires of S.M.B., who died in Bogotá due to a new stroke that he suffered four days before. O'Leary had had to travel to Europe for health reasons and returned in December. His death is a national loss, since he participated in the War of Independence and was a friend of the Liberator Bolívar. Furthermore, he married a Colombian woman and lived most of his life in the country. His death is a calamity for New Granada.
O'Leary, in addition to his outstanding talents and services, was Catholic, which adds a special element to his legacy. Despite being Irish and a relative of Daniel O'Connell, he accepted the sacraments of the Catholic Church in his final moments.
The House of Representatives expressed its sadness at O'Leary's death and sent a committee of members to attend his funeral. News published by the newspaper El Catolicismo, No. 130, February 26-1854.
