Resumen
In this edition of Voces y Regiones, the hosts analyze the meaning and importance of human rights, as well as the situations in which they can be violated in Colombia. Despite being protected by the 1991 Constitution, many fundamental rights, such as access to work, education, and healthcare, remain restricted, especially in vulnerable communities. The discussion explores how violence, inequality, and corruption impact their enforcement and how the context of armed conflict and social exclusion exacerbates the situation. Additionally, the efforts of entities such as the Ombudsman’s Office, the Constitutional Court, and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in protecting and defending these rights are highlighted. The participants reflect on the importance of civic engagement and the guarantees of civil, political, social, and collective rights, emphasizing the challenges the State faces in ensuring their respect and promotion across the country.
