Quemar el diablo, sobre el carnaval y el desapego

Abstract

Burning the devil, is a reflection that detonates with the experience of attending the devil's carnival in Riosucio, Caldas, I inquire about the pedagogical function of fire to strengthen through ritual and festivity: closing cycles, fulfilling penances, expelling and finally renew, I wonder about the vital need to generate rituals to manage transgression and personal transformation. I use the carnival, the effigy of the carnival: The Devil and its festive content to talk about the resistances contained in the carnival, through the construction of my festive character and the burning of my own effigy, thus detaching myself from that individuality, isolated and sacred that builds contemporary egotism, with the purpose of trivializing my image that disappears in carnival and welcoming the festive devil that involves me with the carnival ritual, with cultural resistance and the disappearance of my everyday self.
