Abstract

The Bogotá Police Board met on November 9, 1831 to analyze the new police regulations issued by the Prefect of the department on October 31 of the same year. The Prefect explained to attendees how to implement the regulations and emphasized the importance of zeal and activity to guarantee public safety. He entrusted the parish mayors to, within a period of fifteen days, appoint the block watchmen in their respective neighborhoods or barracks, selecting the most suitable people for that position. The political judge entrusted the same mayors with night patrols and surveillance to maintain public order and the apprehension of thieves. It was agreed to request the General Commander to provide the military assistance that the authorities considered necessary to fulfill these tasks. Published on (November 27, 1831).
