In this case, the claim was supported by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of New Granada, but was still ignored. This is in contrast to the way the British government responds to the claims of its citizens in New Granada by ensuring that they are resolved in a fair and timely manner. The negligence on the part of the British agent's household and his persistence are evidenced by a subsequent fire at Mr. Herran's residence.
