Resumen
In this work the biochemical oxygen demand is determined, in samples of domestic wastewater, by the standard method of incubation at five days and these results are related, with the area under the spectrophotometric curve of the samples, in the range of 250 to 600 nm This range has been chosen, because through previous modifications, it was selected that the ARD samples, absorbed continuously in this range of wavelengths and because this range, covers the absorption maximums of different organic and inorganic chromophores groups, present in domestic sewage Therefore, it is to be assumed that the results found in this study are extensible to samples of domestic wastewater, of similar matrices or, failing that, it is necessary to adjust the method, for different matrices. As a result of this study, it was found that there is indeed a direct relationship between the area under the spectral curve of the samples and their corresponding BOD5 value, with a deviation of less than 15%. This data is important, if you take into account that the acceptable deviations in the standard five-day incubation method can even reach 25%.
