Abstract
The selfie phenomenon is considered in the field of scientific studies, as a mental disorder associated with young people with low self-esteem, contemporary narcissism and seeking approval and acceptance of others, called selfitis (American Psychiatric Association, 2017) whose main affected are the called digital natives, that is, that group of people born since 1995 (Prensky, 2001) and for whom life is inconceivable without a mobile device, since they have always been immersed in the digital world. However, as far as critical studies are concerned, selfies have become a powerful communication tool between them, somehow transcending the biased and demonized look with which scientific studies account for this experience. The “Selfies: life writings” research report presents a look from the experience of young people; experience that has been compiled after the application of the virtual ethnography, a methodological strategy, supported by chat and stalk, tools for collecting information, whose objective is to analyze how sensitive it is in the selfies of a group of young students of the Universidad Colegio Mayor de Cundinamarca, based on the authors postulates like Katya Mandoki, Roland Barthes and Joan Fontcuberta.
