Ítem El Gabostyle adaptaciones y exploraciones tímbricas para batería de los patrones rítmicos de la salsa, cha cha chá, son, bolero, bachata y merengue, usando la técnica extendida auto desarrollada de la mano izquierda-baquetaAdames Bermúdez, Gabriel Arturo; Alvarado, LeonardoThe following thesis documents the author's exploration of six latin rhythms through a creative, experiential and analytic process using an audiovisual and written medium. The Gabostyle technique presents a new approach on the drum set, expanding its timbral possibilities, enabling its use in different scenarios and musical contexts by the performer. The dissertation starts by introducing the context about the development of the Gabostyle using historical, academic and musical references. The introduction also describes part of the history of the drum set and its integration in latin music, the definition of the extended technique concept, the specific and general objectives which are expected to be achieved, the justification and the author’s creative backgrounds. All of the aforementioned establishes a solid foundation for the development of the content which is presented in three parts. The first chapter features different aspects of the Gabostyle technique, explains its meaning, the snare drum preparation, the correct position of the left hand and the drumstick. The chapter also includes examples of reading rhythmic systems prior to the approach of the technique and a musical notation table to be used for the interpretation of the scores. The second chapter contains the analysis and adaptation proposals for the following latin rhythms: Salsa, Cha cha chá, Son, Bolero, Bachata and Merengue. Furthermore, some of the adaptations in this approach may contain possible variations for their interpretation. Part of this material includes supplementary audiovisual content. The third chapter features two solos for drum set which have been performed and transcribed by the author, including supplementary audiovisual content. Finally, the thesis concludes by summarizing the relevant points and final results of this work.
